Adams was born to an U.S. Army officer in Italy and was raised in Castle Rock Colorado. Then, in the latter part of 1990s, she began performing professionally and dancing at Boulder's Dinner Theatre and Country Dinner Playhouse. After that, she relocated to Minnesota where she was scouted for Drop Dead Gorgeous, a mock documentarian film about beauty contests. The film's debut on screen was a bright-eyed but sweet contestant. After that, she relocated in Los Angeles in order to make a name for herself as an actress. She was the wife of actor Tony Curtis from June 1951 to September 1962 and the mother of Kelly Curtis and Jamie Lee Curtis. Leigh was discovered by actress Norma Shearer and signed a contract to be a part of MGM in the late 1940s. She appeared in a range of popular films during the decade that followed, including Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho (from the year 1960) and Living It Up (1954), starring Martin Lewis.
